Face Grain

Face Grain Cutting Boards are the easiest and most economical wood cutting boards due to the ease of making them. They can be very beautiful but that comes at some disadvantages.

Face grain cutting boards will reveal the most cuts and knife marks and quickly loose their attractivness, Face Grain boards are great for Charcuterie Boards but are not ideal if they will be used for cutting or chopping.

They will also wear the sharpening of your knives causing them to become dull very quickly whereas that does not happen with Edge Grain or End Grain.

These boards are softer and absorb more moisture than edge grain.

Face grain will start out looking visually attractive due to the grain that is inherent on the face of boards.

Edge Grain

Edge Grain cutting boards are the most used types of cutting boards because they are economical compared to End Grain, and much more durable than Face Grain. They are are more expensive than Face Grain due to additional steps involved in making them, but less expensive than End Grain due to the complexity of making End Grain due to additional labor and material involved in making End Grain.

Choosing an Edge Grain will give you an ascetically pleasing board, and are durable for most applications. If you plan to do heavy chopping and want a board that will remain ascetically pleasing for many years to come, you should consider an End Grain Cutting board.

End Grain

End Grain cutting boards are the most durable cutting boards you can use, they retain their looks the longest, help keep your knives sharp, and are considered the top echelon of cutting boards.

End Grain Cutting Boards will minimize knife cut marks in the top of your cutting board due to the fact that end grain fibers of a board will seal back up hide any previous knife marks.

They are ideal for heaving chopping because they are the most durable cutting board and will ensure that your knives stay sharp longer. End Grain cutting boards are simply every Chef’s choice. When properly cared for they will last a very long time and are also a show piece for get togethers with Family and/or Friends.

End Grain cutting boards are typically the most expensive due to the fact that they require more wood than other type boards, they are also very labor intensive due to the high number of steps necessary to achieve the end result. There are many more cuts, gluing steps, and surfacing steps when creating these amazing Cutting Boards.
